MISTIC AWARDS
On November 5th the Mid-Island Science Technology & Innovation Council or MISTIC held their 2009 annual Awards Ceremony at the Vancouver Island Conference Center in Nanaimo. Over 300 invited industry leaders, government, municipalities, First Nations and representatives from Post secondary institutions attended to recognize local acheivements in Science and Technology. ECOSIP Industries Inc. of Duncan, nominated in two categories, won the Island SRED Excellence in Innovation Award. SRED or Scientific Research & Experimental Development is a federal government initiative in support of research and development in Canada. ECOSIP Industries, a manufacturer of Structural Insulated Panels or SIPs for the construction industry, was also recognized for their contributions in environmental technology. "It's really nice to be recognized for helping move the construction industry in the right direction." says Kim Johannsen, an owner of ECOSIP Industries. "We all need to do our part and building with SIPs makes great environmental sense."
